June 16–IMS 7 Pekin 6
IMS won a thrilling game at home, defeating Pekin 7-6 on Calli Shaw’s walk-off home run deep over the left field fence in the bottom of the seventh inning. IMS played with great resilience, putting together three-run rallies in both the fifth and seventh innings, each time with two outs and each time to re-take the lead from Pekin. Shaw and Avery Blauvelt had huge nights at the plate, with Blauvelt going 3-4 with two doubles and a run driven in, while Shaw was also 3-4 with two doubles and her game ending home run, driving in five runs for the night. Suzanna Yoder and Rubye Ney each scored twice and collected three hits between them. Defensively, second baseman Rachel Miller had a busy night with three assists and four put outs. Hannah Harris pitched a solid game, picking up four strikeouts and working out of a tough jam in the sixth inning. The highlight of the evening was Shaw’s dramatic three-run drive with two-outs and two runners aboard. Coach Kathryn Ney commented, “We’ve been in situations where we’ve watched other teams rally back late in the game. Our girls never give up and tonight it was our turn to rally. We were down two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Each batter approached the plate trying to find a way to get on. Suzanna and Rubye each hit singles and Calli sent the ball over the fence to end the game. It was pretty thrilling.”
IMS lost the JV game 4-1. Rachel Miller and Joya Schrock pitched.
