Baseball wins the IMS Classic Saturday

IMS 16 Danville 6

IMS played Danville in the first game of the IMS Classic Saturday. IMS got on the board first when Cole Ours scored on a Tobyn Bender sac fly in the first inning. IMS got three more runs in the second inning on a three RBI double by Drake Brezina making the score 4-1 after two innings. IMS scored one more run in the third and two in the fourth to take a 7-1 lead before scoring eight more runs in the fifth inning to build a 15-1 lead. Danville came back with five runs in the bottom of the inning to make the score 15-6. IMS added one more run in the seventh inning making the final score 16-6. Isaiah Swantz got the win on the mound pitching six innings while striking out five hitters. Noah Bruns, Drake Brezina,  and Jacob Schmieder all had two hits for IMS, while Blake Bontrager went 4-4 at the plate for IMS.

IMS played Keokuk in the Championship game of the IMS Classic. Keokuk scored two runs in the top of the first inning before IMS answered scoring one run on a RBI double by Drake Brezina, and one run on a RBI single by Reggie Borntrager to tie the score at two. IMS scored three more runs in the second inning on RBI’s from Cole Ours and Jacob Schmieder. IMS got another run in the third inning on a RBI single by Jakob Schmidt making the score 6-2 after three innings of play. Keokuk cut into the lead scoring two runs in the fourth inning before IMS came right back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to make the score 8-4. Keokuk came back with four runs in the fifth inning to tie the game at 8 after five innings of play. IMS pitcher Caleb Yoder held Keokuk scoreless in the sixth and seventh inning to send the game to the bottom of the last inning tied 8-8. Cole Ours led off the inning reaching second base on an error. A wild pitch sent Ours to third and two intentional walks sent Reggie Borntrager to the plate with zero outs. Borntrager sent a 2-1 pitch just over the head of the Keokuk shortstop for a game winning RBI single giving IMS the 9-8 win.

IMS is now 6-9 on the season and play at Central Lee Monday night. Mark your calendar that baseball will honor seniors on their last home game on Friday evening. Come out to support the seniors and the team!
