IMS finished its regular season traveling to #15 ranked Williamsburg Thursday evening. The IMS back line struggled with the hard surface and the quick Williamsburg forwards giving up two goals around ten minutes into the game. IMS settled things down a bit and began to create some offensive chances for itself. The first IMS goal came on a corner kick from the foot of Anthony Villatoro. Villatoro’s ball crossed the face of the goal where Isaiah Swantz jumped to head the ball. Before Swantz could get to the ball a Williamsburg defender headed the ball into the IMS goal for an own goal. Williamsburg scored next after an IMS defender slipped on the field. IMS responded again pushing the ball forward and taking several shots at goal. As the ball caromed around Gerardo Mendoza was able to poke the ball by the goalie. Williamsburg didn’t take long to respond finding the goal once more before the half for a 2-4 score.
In the second half IMS made some defensive adjustments which helped limit, but not stop Williamsburg’s scoring onslaught as they picked up two additional goals in the second half for the final 2-6 score. Despite the goals allowed there were places where the team played well. During several stretches the young IMS midfield was able maintain possession and generate some scoring chances.
IMS finishes the regular season at 6-9 and 5-3 in conference play. IMS begins sub-state play, hosting Mid-Prairie Monday, May 23 with the game time set for 5:00 pm.
