Alijah Beatty, 16 of Washington, has started her 2016 road racing cycling season. Some recent highlights include attending the team training camp in April at San Diego, CA, podium at the Tour of St. Louis, winning the Iowa City Omnium and podium at the LaCrosse, WI Omnium.
The next few months will be an intense group of races for her beginning with the Memorial Day weekend, Snake Alley Criterium in Burlington, IA, Melon City Criterium in Muscatine and Quad Cites Criterium in Davenport, followed with the Tour of Kansas City. All of this is leading up to the National Championships in Louisville, KY where she will compete in the Road Race, Time Trial and Criterium. She is the defending National Champion in the Woman’s 15-16 Criterium.
She also has started track cycling, or better known as velodrome racing. Track cycling is unique as the bikes are single speed, have no coasting (free hub) and no brakes. She traveled in February and March to the Olympic Training Center Velodrome in Colorado Springs, CO where she raced and attending a Jr. Track Development Camp. Alijah will be attempting to qualify for Jr. Track Worlds, June 14-18 at the LeHigh Valley Velodrome in Trexlertown, PA. If successful, she will join the USA Cycling Track World Championship Team, representing the USA. Junior Track World Championships will be July 20-24 in Aigle, Switzerland.
She is a member of the Women’s Elite Iowa City Cycling Team and the Northstar Development Cycling Team in Minneapolis, MN and is coached by Elizabeth Martin with Zoom Performance in Des Moines and Charlie and Sherry Townsend of Minneapolis, MN.
