The Iowa Mennonite girls track and field team scored 58 points to place fifth in the nine team field of the B division of the Ekstrand Relays in Wayland Thursday night. Conditions were a bit cool with light winds. The sprint medley relay team of Rachel Miller, Mackenzie Gutierrez, Suzanna Yoder and Calli Shaw won their event by over three seconds finishing in 2:03.75, the team’s best time this year. Suzanna Yoder had her best long jump of the year (14-09) to place second. Rachel Miller also had her best jump yet this year (14-01.75) to place fifth. Emma Beachy was second in the discus with a toss of 87-10. Rubye Ney had a great night in the two open hurdle events. She placed third in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:13.03, a personal best. She also placed third in the 100 meter hurdles in 17.64. Rachel Miller was fifth in the 100 meter hurdles in a personal best time of 18.00. Avery Blauvelt lowered her personal best time in the 3000 meter run to 14:00.82. She placed third. She also ran a season best time of 6:13.72 in the 1500 meter run to place sixth. Suzanna Yoder tested her strength in the 400 meter run placing fourth in 1:05.47. Calli Shaw placed fifth with a personal best time of 1:07.83. Yoder was sixth in the 200 meter dash in 29.10. The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Miller, Guyer, Gutierrez and Grace Belin placed fifth in 57.63. Overall it was a great night for the team. We continue to see improvement as the season is winding down.

The Iowa Mennonite boys track and field team had two event winners, one second place and one third place at the meet hosted by WACO. Levi Geyer won the 3200 meter run in a new personal best time of 11:01.96. Drake Brezina was first in the 400 meter dash in 54.23, his new personal best. He also placed second in the long jump with only one measured jump (19-01.50). Brezina was third in the 200 meter dash in 25.02. Noah Bruns was one second behind in 26.02. Bruns placed seventh in the 100 meter dash in 13.04. Micah Miller ran his best time in the 100 meter dash. Jim Wang successfully attempted the 400 meter dash finishing in 1:01.12. He also anchored the 4 x 100 meter relay team to a season best time of 50.34. Brezina, Bruns and Miller ran the first three legs of that relay. The track and field teams compete next at the north division meet of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference meet hosted in Wapello May 5.
