Track teams open season at Danville

trackThe Iowa Mennonite Girls track team scored 71 points at the Danville track meet to place fifth out of six Southeast Iowa Super Conference teams.  Nine athletes competed for the team in a wide variety of events.  Sophomore Emma Beachy won the discus with an all-time best throw of 82 feet 8.25 inches. Rubye Ney and Rachel Miller placed first and second in the 100 meter hurdles while Taylor Guyer placed sixth. Miller and Suzanna Yoder placed fourth and fifth in the long jump.  Calli Shaw placed third in the 3000 meter run and fifth in the 400 meter dash.  Yoder placed third in the both the 100 and 200 meter dashes.  The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Miller, Guyer, Mackenzie Gutierrez and Yoder won a close race for first in 56.66 seconds.  The distance medley relay team of Miller, Gutierrez, Shaw and Alyssa Gonzales placed third. “It was a good meet to start our outdoor season.  There were some pleasant surprises and some areas where we hope to see improvement.”

Five young men competed for Iowa Mennonite in the boys events.  Levi Geyer ran a one second personal best in the 3200 meter run to place third.  Drake Brezina placed third in the long jump (19-02.00) and the 400 meter dash (54.39) and placed fourth in the 200 meter run with a personal best time of 24.95.  Tanner Thrapp, Micah Miller and Finny Lackender all competed in their first high school track meets gaining experience on the 400 meter oval.  Both teams will compete next in Williamsburg April 5.
