Golf teams have a busy week

The Iowa Mennonite boys and  girls golf teams finished up their conference dual meets this week with a trio of meets on April  25, 26 and 28.

Monday sent the teams to Cedarcrest Country Club in Columbus Junction to take on Louisa Muscatine and Notre Dame. On the boys side, Notre Dame (160) won the meet followed by L-M (194) and IMS (213). Junior Roman Slabach and freshman Trevor Leyden led IMS with a pair of 52s. On the girls side, IMS did not have a team score and was led by Gretta Rempel (60) followed by Lara Kliewer (62) and Payton Hart (67).

Tuesday was a home meet at the Kalona Golf Club with Columbus defeating the IMS boys 195-212. Leyden led the IMS boys with a 49. Also scoring were Slabach (52), Drake Brezina (55) and Palmer Thomas (56). Columbus girls shot a fantastic 195 to win the meet. Rempel led the IMS girls with a 74.

Thursday concluded the conference dual season as the boys picked up a win over Lone Tree in wet and cool conditions 229-235. Leading the IMS boys and first-time meet medalist was junior Caleb Yoder (51). Neither girls team had a team score as Gretta Rempel led the IMS girls with a 62.

The boys return to action Tuesday, May 3 at the Mid-Prairie Invitational followed by the SEISC meet Wednesday, May 4. The girls have a week off as they close up the regular season at the SEISC meet Monday, May 9.
