Iowa Mennonite track At Central indoor meet

Four young men represented Iowa Mennonite School at the Central College high school indoor track meet March 18.  Sophomore Levi Geyer had the highest place for the team placing eighth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:39.  This was his first high school track competition.  Drake Brezina placed in the top one third of the long jump placing seventeenth with a jump of 17 feet 10.5 inches.  Jim Wang and Jacob Boller both competed in the 60 and 200 meter dashes.  The team will have its first outdoor competition March 31 in Danville.

The girls track and field team made their presence known the following day in Pella.  Ten athletes competed in a wide variety of events.  Some highlights include a twelfth place finish and personal best in the 400 meter dash by Calli Shaw.  Her time was 1:08.68.  Suzanna Yoder placed thirty-eighth in the 60 meter dash out of 214 competitors.  Rubye Ney placed nineteenth in the 60 meter hurdles.  Rachel Miller was two tenths of a second behind Ney in the 60 meter hurdles for twenty-seventh place.  Miller also placed in the top third of the long jump with a best jump of 13 feet 9.5 inches.  Emma Beachy threw a personal best in the shot put of 22 feet 10 inches.  Miller, Taylor Guyer, Mackenzie Gutierrez and Yoder ran the 4 x 200 meter relay in 2:05.16 placing twenty-ninth out of fifty-five teams.  Shaw, Ney, Gonzales and Yoder teamed up in the 4 x 400 meter relay finishing 4:49.55 good for nineteenth place out of thirty-six teams.  Avery Blauvelt competed in the 1500 and 3000 meter runs while Jenna Boller sprinted the 60 and 200 meter dashes.  “It was really good to get the season started after a full month of practice.  It could be an exciting season for the girl’s team this year!”
