Golf team competes in two meets

golf clip artBeautiful late April weather led to the IMS boys improving on their golf scores this week. Monday, April 27th sent IMS to Lagos Acres golf course in Keota for a non-conference meet with English Valleys, Keota and Washington’s JV. IMS shot their low team score for the year (214), however fell to EV and Keota. Individual scores for the meet were Drake Brezina 48, Caleb Yoder 50, Roman Slabach 52, Mark Ecklor 64 and Palmer Thomas 65.

On Thursday, April 30, IMS went to Hi Point golf course in Iowa City and fell in their final conference dual to Lone Tree, 236-192, despite Roman Slabach’s 41 which won the meet by six shots. Scores for the meet were Slabach 41, Mark Ecklor 52, Caleb Yoder 54 and Palmer Thomas 89.

Coach Nelson said, “We had some great individual efforts this week and all of our golfers shot personal bests in one of the two meets. Drake was really close to having a fantastic round at Keota and Roman’s round at Hi Point was the best individual effort we’ve had all season. Our guys are improving, but they are all still having a few holes that are really hurting their rounds. Hopefully with the nice weather, we will practice hard and will peak with our big tournaments coming up next week.”

IMS competes again Tuesday, May 5 at Kalona in the Mid-Prairie invitational and then heads to the SEISC tournament in Fort Madison on Wednesday, May 6.
