Varsity – IMS 0, Holy Trinity 5

A young IMS soccer team traveled to West Point, Iowa for their first match of the season against a Holy Trinity playing its fourth game of the season. For half of the IMS squad it was their first time playing varsity competition and the inexperience didn’t take long to show. Two minutes into the game Holy Trinity earned a corner kick which they were able to redirect into the goal off a nice head ball. After the initial score,  play settled down as both teams struggled to generate offense. With thirteen minutes left in the half Holy Trinity was awarded an indirect kick about twenty yards from goal. The kick slid through the wall and into the corner putting IMS down 0-2.

The second half saw Holy Trinity pick up another early goal on a misplayed ball. Holy Trinity picked up their fourth goal after IMS defender, Kobi Russom was forced to step off the field with an injury. Again play settled down in the middle of the half. Behind strong play from Kirby Shetler, IMS was finally able to generate some offensive pressure sending balls forward to Danny Lam. Anthony Villatoro sent several nice crosses into the box where Cole Ours and Gerardo Mendoza did their best to turn them into the goal only to be denied by the Holy Trinity goalie.

IMS is 0-1 and returns to action Thursday, April 16, hosting Highland.
