Golf team had a busy week

golfThe IMS boys golf team completed a busy week of competition on Thursday. A cold and windy start to the week led to difficult conditions, but better weather improved play. IMS competed Monday, April 20 at Winfield-Mt Union against a team coming off of consecutive top five state finishes in class 1A. The team lost the meet 167-265. Scores on the day were Drake Brezina 55, Roman Slabach 57, Caleb Yoder 71, Mark Ecklor 82 and Palmer Thomas 96.

On Tuesday, April 21 the boys played at the Kalona Golf Club against Mediapolis and Wapello. Mediapolis(186) and Wapello(191) both defeated IMS(245). Individual scores were Caleb Yoder 54, Drake Brezina 61, Roman Slabach 63, Mark Ecklor 67 and Palmer Thomas 81.

The team headed to Cedarcrest Country Club on Thursday, April 23 and lost to the reigning conference champs of Columbus 158-235. The IMS individual scores were Drake Brezina 48, Roman Slabach 55, Caleb Yoder 62, Mark Ecklor 70 and Palmer Thomas 73.

IMS finished the week going 0-4 in duels against conference teams and is now 0-5 for the season.

“We have a young team and they are all still learning fundamentals and getting a better feel for the game,” said Coach Steve Nelson. “They all have good spots in their rounds that show they are getting better, but we have to get more consistent. Drake Brezina showed some brilliance on Thursday and is really close to competing at a high level.”
