The Iowa Mennonite girls track team placed third in the class B division at the Belle Plaine Invitational Tuesday. Seven athletes competed scoring 81 points behind Lone Tree and Don Bosco. Rachel Miller and Riley Schmieder were both double event winners. Miller won the long jump with a personal best effort of 14’3”. She also won the 100 meter hurdles in 18.88. Schmieder won both the 3000 meter and 1500 meter runs uncontested. She also placed third in the 100 meter hurdles. Demi Brezina was second in the 400 meter dash in 1:06.13, a personal record. Emma Beachy also placed second in the discus with a personal best throw of 72’ 1”. The 4 x 400 meter team of Schmieder, Avery Blauvelt, Miller and Brezina placed third in 4:59.99. “This meet was perfect for our team. The weather was excellent and we competed against schools our size. Our athletes rose to the occasion and competed well. It was a great way to start the outdoor season!” coach Marty Gingerich commented.
Both boys and girls track and field teams will compete next in Williamsburg April 7.
