The boys and girls golf teams both notched their first win of the season on Thursday by defeating Lone Tree in cold and windy conditions at Kalona Golf Club. Roman Slabach shot a solid 52, while Ben Miller 62, and Zach Hill 63, contributed to the teams top four scores.
On the girls side, consistency led the IMS team to victory. Despite a fantastic 47 shot by Liz Griffin of Lone Tree, IMS was still able to pick up the win. Michaela Prihoda 55, Abbie DeWild 56, Breana Stout 58, and Jess Bender 60, led to the team score of 229. Lone Tree finished five strokes back at 234.
Coach Steve Nelson said, “It has been a tough spring for golf. We’ve barely been able to practice, let alone compete, so it feels good to show some consistency in poor conditions and pick up a victory. We have an important week ahead of us with competitions and preparation for the conference tournaments, sectionals and regionals.”
Lane Schrock 64, Jacob Bruns 72, also competed for the boys team, Drake Brezina 57, and RidgeLee Gingerich 63 competed on the JV team, and Elizabeth Yoder 74, and Liza Brenneman 78 also competed for the girls team.
