IMS Junior Anne Buckwalter represented Southeast Iowa at the Iowa Music Teachers State Piano Auditions this past Saturday at Iowa State University in Ames in the music building on campus. She received a I rating and honorable mention status for her memorized performance of Bach’s F Major Two Part Invention, Milonga del angel by Astor Piazzola and the Scherzo in E Minor by Felix Mendelssohn in the level E division.
Levels E and F repertoire is categorized as college level work. Eighteen students from across the state of Iowa including Des Moines, Quad Cities, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Sioux City AND Wellman 🙂 competed at level E. Each student plays at an assigned time slot for an adjudicator. In addition to the memorized pieces, the pianists must be prepared to play whatever scale, arpeggios and chord cadence the judge selects. The adjudicator’s written comments congratulated Anne on her excellent stylistic interpretation of the pieces as well as her overall musicality.
Resident piano instructor Susan See comments, “Events such as this help piano students to play their very best; that in itself is the reward. That being said, it is always rewarding to receive encouragement for all the practice and preparation that go into these high powered performance opportunities. Well done, Anne!”
