Baseball advances in district play

IMS 5 New London 3

IMS won 5-3 over New London in the opening round of district play. IMS got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first inning on a Tanner Leyden RBI single. New London came back and tied the game at one in the second inning before adding a run in the third to take a 2-1 lead. IMS came back and got a run in the bottom of the third on an Aaron Ockenfels RBI single. IMS added two more runs in the fourth inning on a two RBI double by Reggie Hostetler. New London and IMS each added a run in the sixth inning to make the final score 5-3.

Tanner Leyden got the win on the mound for IMS pitching all seven innings. Hostetler went three for four at the plate with a double and three RBIs. Ockenfels finished the night two for three with a double and a RBI. Payton Miller hit two for three for IMS. “The guys did a great job of competing tonight and grinding out a win,” said Coach Danny Hershberger.

IMS is 12-14 on the year and will play Lone Tree at Highland Thursday at 7 pm.
