Golf teams participate at the conference meet

The boys and girls golf teams competed in their conference meets on Thursday, May 2 (boys) and Monday, May 6 (girls). The boys finished seventh out of seven North division teams on a cold, overcast day with strong winds. Scoring was difficult and it showed in higher scores across the board. Winfield-Mount Union capped off a fantastic conference season with a decisive win with a four-player team score of 331. Columbus was second with a 344 followed by Wapello at 357. IMS was a distant seventh at 456.

Tanner Leyden – 105

Brent Brenneman – 115

Richard Deming – 115

Thaddeus Yoder – 121

The girls had completely different weather Monday with lots of sun, little wind and highs in the 70s. However, following the weekend rains, wet conditions made for long holes with thick long rough throughout the course. Wapello finished off an undefeated conference season by blitzing the North field with a 398 team score. Mediapolis was second at 432 and Lone Tree was third at 446. IMS finished seventh with a 544. Ellie Stastny, playing from the 6th position, led IMS as she continues to show improvement as a first year golfer.

Ellie Stastny – 132

Jess Bender – 134

Abbie DeWild – 137

Michaela Prihoda – 141

The girls finish up the regular season with a make-up meet at Columbus on Thursday, May 9 and then compete in regional play at New London on Monday, May 13. The low two teams and five individuals move on to the second round of regionals. The boys head to sectionals on Friday, May 10th at Calamus. The low two teams and four individuals move on to districts.
