Girls track team competes at Danville

Senior Anya Slabaugh’s performance in the high jump Thursday night at Danville was the highlight for the Iowa Mennonite girls track team.  Slabaugh cleared 4’10” which broke the previous meet record.  She placed second in the event behind Britany Mathison of Central Lee.  Both jumpers cleared 4’10” but Mathison gets the win and record due to fewer missed attempts during the competition.  Slabaugh also placed fourth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:11.9.  Riley Schmieder had a good night on the track placing in three events.  She was third in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:51 and fifth in both the 100 meter hurdles and 1500 meter runs with times of 19.56 and 5:55 respectively.  Kristin Davis made her debut with an Iowa Mennonite track jersey placing fourth in the 200 meter run with a time of 30.63 and sixth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 14.63.  Michaela Gingerich also competed in the 200 meter dash.  Senior Camila Segar ran her first ever 3000 meter race finishing in 13:58 for sixth place.  The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Slabaugh, Davis, Gingerich and Alvard Mamikonyan placed sixth with a time of 1:04.30.  The team competes next at Iowa Valley Monday May 8.
