The IMS boys and girls golf teams were back in action with a surprisingly nice day for competition on Monday, April 22 against Mediapolis at the Kalona Golf Course. After a wet week with a cancelled meet Thursday and little practice it was good to be back on the links. Coach Steve Nelson was pleased with the teams’ efforts. “The teams played relatively well considering the lack of practice time. We have not been outside since last Tuesday. Six of our golfers shot season lows last night.”
The Mediapolis boys came out on top 184-237 led by meet medalist Nick Anderson (41). Tanner Leyden has led the boy’s team each meet and did again firing a 53. Zach Hill (57), Thaddeus Yoder (61), and Jacob Bruns (66) finished up the top four scoring. Ben Miller competed individually and fought his way back onto the varsity roster with a season low 61.
The girls shot a 250 with the top four scores counted from Michaela Prihoda (60), Breana Stout (61), Abbie DeWild (62) and Jess Bender (67). Mediapolis did not have a team score but was led by meet medalist Kensley Heater (49).
“Our teams continue to improve. The boys have had lower scores in each meet and the girls are getting more consistent and it is showing in their scores,” said Nelson.
Last week on April 15, the girls and boys played Winfield Mt. Union at Kalona as the boys fell 244-182 and the girls lost a close one 229-225. Tanner Leyden led the boys with a 51. Season lows came from Jess Bender shooting a 50 and Breana Stout a 53. IMS is back in action this Thursday at Hi Point golf course in Iowa City against Lone Tree.
