IMS was overmatched on Friday night, falling to a good Winfield team, 36-55. IMS got off to a quick start and led 6-2 after four minutes of play before Winfield closed the period on a 13-4 run. IMS regained the lead on back to back Kristin Davis threes to start the second but Winfield answered by outscoring IMS 18-0 in the last five minutes of the second quarter. IMS battled hard in the second half but was not able to cut into the margin and fell 36-55.
IMS was led in scoring by Kristin Davis’ 13 points. Olivia Yutzy had 11 points and seven rebounds. Riley Schmieder and Hannah Miller each had five points. Cassidy Bontrager completed the scoring with two points. Schmieder had five steals to lead IMS.
Coach Aaron Gingerich commented, “I was proud of the girls effort. If you take away that four minute stretch in the second quarter we played even the rest of the night. There are a lot of good things we can take from this game.”
With the loss IMS falls to 7-13 on the season and 6-12 in the SEISC. IMS next plays Friday in the conference tournament.
