IMS was on the road for the second straight night, falling to a scrappy Columbus team, 35-57. The game was tight early on as Columbus lead 9-8 after a quarter and 24-21 at halftime. Columbus broke the game open in third, outscoring IMS 21-5 in the period to take a 45-26 lead into the final quarter, and cruising to the win.
IMS was led in scoring by Olivia Yutzy and Hannah Miller who finished with nine points apiece. Kristin Davis and Cassidy Bontrager each had five. Riley Schmieder finished with four points and Demi Brezina completed the scoring with three points. Yutzy led IMS with eight rebounds. Davis handed out four assists.
Coach Aaron Gingerich commented, “We played three good quarters but I think Columbus wore us down a little bit. When things started to turn for the worst we let it snowball on us. We need to do a better job in those stretches.”
With the loss IMS falls to 7-11 overall, and 6-10 in the SEISC. IMS looks to avenge a 40-41 loss from earlier in the season Tuesday at home against Pekin.
