The Clothing class has been working on projects to donate to the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital and was able to deliver them this morning to Tom Walljasper, Manager of Community and Staff Engagement, Marketing & Communications. Tom also gave the group a brief tour of some of the Hospital’s sites of interest including the Patient’s Library and UI Hospital Medical Museum.
The girls began the project with a shopping trip to Hobby Lobby to choose fabric, then spent a few days working on sewing the pillows…practicing first on one for themselves, then making another to give away. They also each made a crayon roll for children at the hospital. “These projects were a great way to start the semester, learning some basic sewing skills and also being able to give something to others who were really appreciative of our work. It was a rewarding feeling to be able to deliver them and know they will brighten a child’s day.” says FCS Instructor Ranee Brokaw.
