The IMS softball season came to an end Monday night in a 4-5 loss to Lone Tree in the first round of regional play. Both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings before IMS got on the board with a big four run third inning to take the early lead. Lone Tree answered quickly in the top of the fourth with four runs of their own to even the score. Lone Tree brought the go ahead run across in the top of the sixth to take a one run lead into the bottom half of the inning. The lead would hold up as six straight IMS batters were retired, giving Lone Tree the 5-4 win.
Naomi Miller, Jacayla Litwiller, Riley Schmieder, and Hannah Miller each had a run scored for IMS. Miller and Litwiller each added an RBI. Laura Hochstetler also had an RBI for IMS.
Coach Kim Wood said, “The girls played very well tonight. They made many big defensive plays throughout the game to keep us close. It has been a great group of girls to coach this season, and we are excited about returning all of them next year.”
IMS ends the season at 6-19. The young group had many exciting moments, including a signature win against conference champion, Mediapolis. IMS will build on their success next year as they lose no seniors to graduation.
