IMS lost a hotly contested game to West Burlington Thursday night at IMS. IMS came out ready to play and led 6-2 with a minute to go in the opening period. Early on IMS missed some good opportunities to extend their lead by not converting on shots around the basket and by missing their first four attempts from the free throw line. At the end of one both teams were knotted at eight apiece. The pace quickened in the second period as both teams started converting on the offensive end. A big three by Keilah Brokaw with two minutes to go in the period made it a 23-25 game. IMS started the second half on a 6-0 run by pressing and creating turnovers which IMS was able to convert into some easy baskets. IMS was not able to maintain their momentum and West Burlington went on a 15-2 run to take a 40-31 lead with a minute to go in the third. IMS scored the final four points of the quarter to make it a 35-40 game going into the final period. The West Burlington lead grew to eleven at 39-50, when Kristin Davis put in a big three to draw within eight with three minutes to play. IMS was not able to keep pace down the stretch as West Burlington went on to score eighteen fourth quarter points, making the final score 46-60.
IMS was without Laura Hochstetler who injured her thumb during warmups and Amber Davis who injured her knee in the second quarter. Coach Aaron Gingerich commented, “I felt like our team came out with a lot better effort tonight. We still had a few mental lapses that cost us against a good team. We missed Laura and Amber tonight and hope they heal up quickly.”
