IMS fell to Pekin Friday night 32-51. A slow start found IMS in a 3-12 hole with three minutes to go in the opening quarter. IMS gained some momentum on back to back baskets from freshman Hannah Miller and finished the quarter on a 6-0 run to make the score 9-12 at the end of one. IMS struggled to score throughout the second quarter and trailed 15-23 at the break. A couple Pekin threes to start the second half stretched the lead to fourteen. IMS was unable to stop the run and the lead grew to nineteen midway through the third period. An IMS fourth quarter run cut the lead to eleven but that was as close as IMS was able to get.
Coach Aaron Gingerich said “Pekin is a great team. They have quickness at every position and it was tough for us to slow them down. We put together good stretches tonight and are looking forward to building on that.”
IMS was led by Olivia Yutzy with ten points and five rebounds. Riley Schmieder had seven, Hannah Miller had six, Kristin Davis had five. Celia Hostetler and Amber Davis rounded out the scoring with two points apiece.
IMS falls to 2-12 on the season and next plays tuesday at L-M.
