IMS gave SEISC second place Winfield Mt. Union all they could handle Tuesday night, but didn’t have enough down the stretch to pull out a win.  Early on IMS had a hard time finishing good looks around the basket and found themselves behind 4-12 with a minute to go in the period.  IMS turned up the pressure during the second quarter and went into halftime down just one, 23-24.  The half was capped off by a Laura Hochstetler three as time expired, giving IMS a big boost going into the break.  IMS carried that momentum into the third and led 35-30 with a minute to play in the period.  The game was neck and neck throughout the fourth quarter, but with thirty seconds to play IMS found themselves behind 37-41.  A Laura Yoder rebound and put back with seventeen seconds left made it a two point game.  After a timeout Winfield was able to secure the inbound pass and forced IMS to foul.  Winfield made all four free throw attempts down the stretch to escape with a 45-39 win.

Coach Aaron Gingerich said “I was happy with the effort and focus we played with tonight.  The girls have been practicing well and things are starting to come together for them.  We are excited about the strides we have taken and are looking forward to continued improvement in the coming weeks.”

IMS was led by Amber Davis and Kristin Davis who scored nine points apiece.  Amber also contributed eight rebounds in a strong effort. Casey Perez had another strong outing recording five steals on the night. Laura Hochstetler finished with six points, Olivia Yutzy had four, Riley Schmieder had four, Laura Yoder had four, and Casey Perez rounded out the scoring with three points.

IMS falls to 2-11 on the season and next plays Friday at Pekin.
