IMS returned to conference action Tuesday in Hillcrest Union and defeated Winfield Mt. Union 53-31. IMS took control early and led 16-5 after one quarter. The IMS defense continued to hold the Wolves down as IMS went into intermission leading 27-8. IMS then outscored Winfield 13-2 to start the second half to lead 40-10 at the two-minute mark of the third period.
The balanced IMS attack was paced by Cameron Gingerich with 13 points and Johnny Lackender with 12. Chance Miller tallied nine points and seven assists, and Brian Hagedorn added seven points. Dallas Nye scored six points and had a team-high five rebounds, and Randy Ropp and Zach Hill each scored three points to complete the scoring. Peyton Thompson dished for five assists, and Miller and Lackender each pulled down four rebounds. Miller and Ropp each had three steals. All-conference player Clayton Robison led Winfield with 14 points.
Coach Dwight Gingerich said “We played very well defensively in stretches and our effort was pretty consistent. Offensively, we must keep polishing up on our execution. We played a lot of people and we weren’t always in sync, but again I thought the concentration was better.”
IMS goes to 8-2 in conference play, 9-3 overall and next plays at league co-leader Pekin on Friday.
