Following a pair of road games during the first week back from break, IMS finished the week at home on Saturday against Cedar Valley Christian, defeating the pesky Huskies by the score of 62-47. IMS led after one period 18-16 and then pulled away to a 32-21 lead on a Chance Miller triple with 2:40 remaining in the half. Fouls had several IMS players on the bench to close the half with IMS leading 34-25.
Cedar Valley fought back and whittled the margin to six at 37-31 by the halfway point of the third period. The Huskies then cut the margin to 43-40 on a three ball going into the final frame. The teams competed hard through the first half of the final stanza and then Dallas Nye converted on a three-point play to make it 52-44 with four minutes to play. Moments later it was Cameron Gingerich with the steal and lay-in to make it 54-44. Chance Miller drained six free throws down the stretch and IMS was 9-9 from the line the fourth period to secure the win.
Miller led a balanced IMS attack with 18 points and nine assists, while Peyton Thompson scored 13, Gingerich 11, and Nye had 10. Thompson had four steals, Gingerich and Nye each had three. Nye pulled down a team-high five rebounds. Brian Hagedorn scored eight points with a pair of assists and Justin Boller completed the scoring with two points. IMS was 16-18 from the line for the game while shooting 44 percent from the floor. Jon Landis led Cedar Valley with 16 points.
Coach Dwight Gingerich said “we gutted it out in the fourth quarter and guys stepped up and made big plays to overcome a great effort by Cedar Valley.”
IMS goes to 8-3 on the season and next plays at home against Winfield-Mt. Union Tuesday.
