IMS battled hard but couldn’t generate enough offense to win on the road against Waco Friday night. On the evening IMS shot 0-11 from behind the arc and just 2-11 from the free throw line. IMS dominated the ball throughout most of the first quarter, at one stretch forcing Waco into eight turnovers on nine offensive possessions. IMS was not able to convert those opportunities into baskets and found themselves behind 5-6 after one quarter. IMS’ stifling defense kept them in the game but the offensive struggles continued throughout the second quarter and IMS went into the break down 12-18. The second half saw much of the same as IMS struggled to make baskets. Waco led 26-18 after three quarters, and maintained that lead throughout the fourth for a 34-24 win.
Coach Aaron Gingerich said, “I felt like we played with a lot of effort. That is the most consistent we have played on the defensive end throughout the entire year. Offensively we need to do a better job concentrating around the basket and finishing the play.”
