IMS’ three-game winning streak over Washington came to an abrupt end Saturday as the 3A Demons defeated IMS 67-56 in Washington.  IMS battled but couldn’t overcome a strong effort by a balanced athletic Washington team that goes to 4-2 on the season.  IMS drops to 4-1.

The teams were nearly even after one period, as Washington led 17-16.  The Demons controlled the second period and led 36-28 at the half.  IMS scored first in the second half but the Demons answered and pulled away to a 50-34 lead over the next five minutes.  IMS then came alive to go on an 11-0 run to cut it to 50-45 before a Colin Steele trey gave Washington a huge lift going into the final period, the Demons up 53-45.  Another score got the Demons back to a 10-point margin, which they held to the end of the game.

In the end it was a combination of strong play on the

part of Washington and a tough night taking care of the ball, as IMS finished with 21 turnovers.  IMS shot 56 percent from the floor, only to do itself in with the give-aways.

Peyton Thompson led IMS with 19 points.  Brian Hagedorn scored 12 and Cameron Gingerich added 10.  Chance Miller finished with nine assists to go with nine points, six rebounds and two steals.  Dallas Nye had six rebounds and Gingerich had five.  Gingerich also had four assists, Nye and Thompson each had three.

Coach Dwight Gingerich said “We have a chance to allow this game to make us better.  Washington dictated tempo and we found ourselves reacting.  We did not execute the way we need to at either end, though I thought we tried.  It is a reminder that there is a lot involved in the growth and development of a team, and that things don’t just happen for you.”

IMS next plays at undefeated Lone Tree Tuesday.
