IMS defeated Louisa-Muscatine in conference action Tuesday, winning 76-44 on the strength of balanced scoring and a defensive effort that got better as the game progressed. Following a 20-14 advantage after one quarter, IMS out-scored the Falcons 29-16 to lead 49-30 at intermission. A 23-7 third period gave IMS the lead at 72-37 after three periods and the running clock was in effect.
The balanced scoring attack was led by Peyton Thompson with 14 points and five assists. Johnny Lackender tallied 13 points with five rebounds. Cameron Gingerich had a big night with 11 points, eight assists, seven steals, and three rebounds. Dallas Nye also scored 11 points and had three assists and three rebounds, and Brian Hagedorn finished with 11 points, two assists and three rebounds. Reggie Hostetler recorded seven points, four steals and two rebounds. Randy Ropp added four points, Dillon Bender had three, and Joel Shetler scored two points. Chance Milller dished for seven assists.
Coach Dwight Gingerich said, “Our defense and rebounding lacked consistency early but got better. I thought we shared the ball really well, evidenced by our team total of 29 assists. This game provided an opportunity to get more minutes to some of our guys who haven’t played as much, and they responded well.”
IMS goes to 3-0 on the season with Wapello coming in to Hillcrest Union Friday.
