IMS’ baseball season came to an abrupt end Tuesday evening at the hands of the Preston Trojans. After leading the entire game and escaping several jams throughout the evening, one swing of the bat ended the game and the season, 4-5.
Baseball team falls one short of state
Leading 2-1 through six, IMS was able to add a couple of runs on back-to-back doubles by Riley Hochstedler and Jackson Brokaw to start the seventh. Brokaw’s pinch-runner also scored during the inning and IMS seemed to be in control.
In the bottom of the seventh, Preston strung together several hits and scored to close the gap to 4-2. With two on and two outs, the final Trojan batter of the evening lifted a deep fly down the left field line, clearing the fence and scoring two ahead of himself in walk-off fashion.
IMS’ season ended with a 16-13 record. The coaches and players are commended for having a very memorable season!
