IMS 8 Winfield-Mount Union 3
The IMS softball team picked up their eighth win of the season last night defeating Winfield-Mt. Union in Winfield. The first three inning were uneventful for both teams as they both made defensive plays to keep the other off the scoreboard. As has been the case in many of their last few games the IMS defense made some great plays. One such play came in the third inning with a runner on second and two outs when Keilah Brokaw secured the third out on a sprinting over her shoulder catch in foul territory behind first base. IMS started things off in the top half of the inning when Mo Brenneman bunted for a base hit and was moved to second by Olivia Yutzy. Gretchen Geyer bunted for another base hit and stole second to put runners on second and third with one out. IMS would plate both runs to make at 2-0 game and IMS would never look back. They would add two more runs in the top of the fifth and four more in the top of the seventh to make it an 8-0 game. W-M-U would come through with some solid hits and three runs in the bottom of the seventh but the IMS defense shut things down securing the win.
“I thought our defense was really solid tonight. W-M-U has been hitting the ball pretty well and we made plays to keep them off the bases. Offensively it took us a little while to get things going but it was fun to see us come through in the top of the seventh with some big hits to put the game out of reach for them. We want to be playing our best softball at the end of the season and I think we are starting to see that happen,” commented Head Coach Chris Nachtigall.
IMS was led at the plate by Gretchen Geyer 3-4 with 1 run and 1 SB; Mo Brenneman 2-4 with 2 runs and 2 RBI; Laura Hochstetler 2-3 with 2 runs; Jacayla Litwiller 1-3 with 1 run; Amber Davis 1-1 1 RBI.
IMS is 8-11 (7-7 SEISC) and plays next tonight at home against Highland.
