Sophomore pitcher Cameron Gingerich scattered four hits, allowing one run, striking out five and allowing only two walks against Winfield-WACO Tuesday night. The lone run, however, did come in their half of the second inning with a solo homerun over the short porch in right field to give them an early 1-0 lead. The IMS hitters finally put something together offensively when Riley Hochstedler earned a one-out walk in the third  inning and later tied the score off a Jackson Brokaw single.  Cameron then regained the lead for IMS in the fourth inning as he hit a solo shot to lead off the inning for IMS. Winfield’s pitcher did an excellent job coming back though and limiting the damage the IMS hitters could put up. This changed in the fifth, when IMS tallied three runs off runs by Ethan Gingerich, Brokaw, and Marshall Schrock. IMS would break open the game with four runs each in the sixth and seventh innings to win 13-1. Leading the way offensively was Ethan Gingerich with two hits, Jackson Brokaw with two hits and three runs scored, Marshall Schrock with three runs scored, Cameron Gingerich with two hits, Christopher Perez with two hits and two RBIs, and a solo homerun by Riley Hochstedler, who also had three runs scored.

In the nightcap, Junior southpaw Levi Schrock took the hill for the first time this season but ran into trouble early. With consecutive 0-2 counts on the first two hitters for Winfield, Grant Edwards and Skyler Davis found a way to hit it over the right-field fence to give them an early 2-0 lead. IMS would cut the lead in half when a Christopher Perez sacrifice fly scores Riley Hochstedler who reached the base safely on a single. IMS then tied the ballgame in the third inning when a one-out hit-by-pitch to Jason Litwiller allowed him to score from a Jackson Brokaw single. Winfield came back in their half of the third, as they notched three runs of  their own with combinations of walks and key hits. Reggie Hostetler then came in relief in the fourth inning to retire the side 1-2-3 and allowed IMS to gain momentum again. With IMS down 5-2, two outs, and runners on first and second, the umpires halted play due to a lightning strike visual. However, after viewing the radar, the storms appeared enough miles away to continue play. After resuming, Marshall Schrock came to the plate and singled home Ethan Gingerich to cut the lead to 5-3. Cameron Gingerich then came to the plate and in one swing of the bat, drives a ball to the right center field fence for a double to tie the ball game up scoring Riley Hochstedler and Marshall Schrock. Christopher Perez then gave IMS its first lead of the game with an RBI single to left scoring Cameron Gingerich. Winfield struck out the last batter to end the inning, but not before the 6-5 lead by IMS. The storms became closer and it was evident that a major system was coming in suspending play.

The game will resume at 1pm, Thursday, weather permitting, AT Winfield Mt. Union.  The IMS JV will play as many innings as possible against Winfield-Mt. Union/WACO before both teams travel to Central Lee to take them on in a JV/V DH.
