The IMS softball team traveled to Columbus Junction on the hottest day of the year so far. The heat took its toll and IMS came out a little flat and struggled defensively in the second inning allowing three runs on no hits and three IMS errors. The third inning was also a struggle for the defenses and they gave up two more runs on two errors. After that they buckled down but the damage had already been done and they would never be able to recover. Mo Brenneman got the scoring started for IMS when she led the fourth inning off with a walk, promptly stole second and third and then scored on a ball hit back to the pitcher. IMS would add another run in the seventh as Gretchen Geyer laid a beautiful bunt for the only hit of the night for IMS. She then stole second and third and scored on Megan Haifley’s ground ball to the pitcher.

“Columbus has a very good pitcher and she was on tonight hitting her spots and keeping our girls off balance. I thought we looked a little tired tonight but started to get it going in the last couple of inning but it was to late,” said Head Coach Chris Nachtigall.

IMS is 3-6 and will play Louisa Muscatine Tuesday night.
