IMS 4 Lone Tree 10
The IMS Softball team was on the road and back in action Tuesday night taking on Lone Tree. With the threat of rain looming the varsity game was moved to 5 pm. IMS started off the first inning with two of the first three batters reaching base. IMS put pressure on the Lone Tree defense after moving the runners up to second and third on a double steal. With runners in scoring position and one out IMS was poised to strike first but after after a heads up play by Lone Tree on a fly ball to center they were able to get out of the inning unscathed.
Lone Tree then came to the plate with hot bats scoring two runs in the first and added five more in the second to take a 0-7 lead. IMS would out score the Lions in the last four innings but the damage had been done. IMS was only a couple hits away from doing more damage stranding 11 baserunners, eight of which were in scoring position.
“Lone Tree is a very good offensive team. You can’t afford to give them any pitches up in the zone which happened too often and they took advantage of them. I thought we put good offensive pressure on them but they made some great plays on very hard hit balls. We were just two or three hits away from scoring a lot of runs,” commented Head Coach Chris Nachtigall.
IMS was led by Gretchen Geyer with two hits and two stolen bases, Laura Hochstetler with two hits, Mo Brenneman with one hit, one run scored and three stolen bases, Emma Yoder had one hit, one run scored and two stolen bases, Meredith Schrock had two hits and one RBI and Megan Haifley one hit and one run.
IMS is 1-1 overall and in the conference.
