The IMS softball team started the season in Wapello on Monday night.  On a perfect night to be at the ball park IMS came out slowly and Wapello was firing on all cylinders.  Three of Wapello’s first four batters hit doubles to open the game giving them a 3-0 lead going into the second inning.  Wapello added another run in the third inning on a couple of IMS errors.  The defense including IMS pitcher Laura Hochstetler settled down and did not allow a hit for the rest of the game and only allowed three base runners during the last four innings.  After just missing a few opportunities in the first five innings the IMS bats came alive in the sixth scoring eight runs on seven hits and two Wapello errors.  IMS added another run in the top of seventh and closed out Wapello with a 9-4 win on the road.

“Wapello is a young team that can hit the ball.  I was very impressed with the adjustments Laura Hochstetler and Gretchen Geyer made throughout the game to keep them off balance.  Our girls kept fighting despite struggling to get going early.  In softball all it takes is one person to get it going and Emma Yoder did that for us tonight starting the sixth inning off with a single and then hitting a triple in her second at bat of the inning,”  commented Head Coach Chris Nachtigall.
IMS is 1-0 and will play at Lone Tree tonight.
