The IMS Baseball team opened up their season at Wapello Monday night in a conference double-header.  Sophomore Cameron Gingerich led the charge on the mound providing an outstanding pitching performance allowing three hits, striking out 12 with no walks.  The two unearned runs came in the bottom of the seventh inning with a few fielding miscues that led to the short rally by Wapello, but IMS came away with the 6-2 victor.

Cameron got the party started offensively in the first inning when he ripped a two run triple to the right center gap that allowed Jackson Brokaw and Riley Hochstedler to score. Ethan Gingerich also tripled and had a run scored.  Jackson Brokaw had a hit, two runs scored, and two RBIs in the game.  Cameron finished with three RBIs.

Jackson Brokaw

In the nightcap, Senior Jackson Brokaw took total control on the mound stifling hitters.  The only free base allowed was a Hit-by-Pitch in the first inning. After this, Jackson continued to strike out the next six Wapello hitters which provided the spark for the offense to take control of the game and put it out of reach.

In the IMS first, Cameron Gingerich came up with another quality at-bat with a single and error that allowed Brokaw and Riley Hochstedler to score and give the early 2-0 lead.  Freshman Dallas Nye in the second inning started off with a double to the right center gap and later scored on a Jason Litwiller ground ball to make it a 3-0 lead.  In the same inning, Mitch Hermiston who reached base on a fielding error would also score as Ethan Gingerich reached base on another fielder error by the Wapello defense and make the score 4-0.  Cameron Gingerich and Jackson Brokaw led the IMS hitters with two hits in the game and two RBIs.  Jason Litwiller and Kyle Brinning each doubled in the game as well.

With the sweep, IMS goes to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the SEISC.  Next action for the varsity will be on Friday as they host Lone Tree in their season home opener.  JV action begins on Tuesday night at home against Wapello beginning at 5:30 pm.
